What if Jesus meant we should love our actual neighbors? What if the true nature of creation is not competition but commerce? What if our purpose is to come together and really make a difference in our community?
There are many issues that face our community but the majority of them could be greatly reduced if we simply became a community of good neighbors doing God’s work with our hands.
From the city’s perspective, there’s not a lot of difference between the way Christians and non Christians neighbor and the benefits are endless.
Knowing our neighbors and where they live offers an increased sense of belonging within our community. We also learn who may need, or be able to offer, a little help at times to build a strong support system. Close neighborhoods help increase safety and lower crime. Older neighbors can pass on community history while providing incredible opportunities for us to connect our stories to theirs.
We do this first with a hand-out of simple, healthy, affordable food to meet those in need then offer a hand-up for long-term improvement. On the surface, it’s simply friends sharing a meal. However, if we pass it on, we could help all of our neighbors in need.
